I am reborn with each film and Gypsy turned me into a different person: Jiiva

The audio of Jiiva’s upcoming movie Gypsy was launched earlier today in Chennai. Directors Pushkar, Gayathri, Mari Selvaraj, Lenin Bharathi, Seenu Ramasamy, Karu Pazhaniappan, producer SR Prabhu, and music composer D Imman, were among those present, along with the cast and crew of the film.

Speaking at the event, Santhosh Narayanan who composed music for the film said that he was extremely happy to work with Raju Murugan once again after Cuckoo. “Every artist is a gypsy himself. We all aspire to be free of everything. This crew gave me that experience for six months. I can't thank them enough for it.” He further added that the Gypsy album was extremely close to his heart. “It's not my music, it's the music of the people I met. I hope you all celebrate it as much as I did.” Around 200 people have contributed to the album including TM Krishna, Siddharth, Dhee, and several other singers.

The event, which began with a tribute to the late director Mahendran, also saw the crew honour Bant Singh, an activist singer. A book on Bant Singh, who has done a role in the film, was launched at the event as a gesture of his personal rebellion against discrimination.

Calling Gypsy an important film in his career, Jiiva said he was a gypsy himself at home. “My family has people from diverse cultures. But when I first heard the story, it hit me hard. The film's commentary and thoughts it will put forth have nothing to do with the gypsy. I was a different person after I finished this project.” He added that he is an actor who lives in two worlds. “I am an actor who is reborn with each film. I want to do both commercial and off-beat films and I am grateful to be part of a film like Gypsy.”
