Actor Vivek Oberoi and producer Sandip Ssingh on Thursday submitted their ‘detailed response’ to the Election Commission’s show cause notice over their upcoming film, PM Narendra Modi. Last week, a district election officer of the East Delhi parliamentary constituency had sent a notice to the film’s production company Legend Global Studios, music label T-Series and a daily Hindi newspaper for allegedly violating the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) by running a full-page advertisement of the film.

Directed by Omung Kumar, PM Narendra Modi is scheduled to release on April 5, a week before the first phase of general elections kicks off in India. The MCC has been in effect since March 10, forbidding contesting parties from running direct or surrogate advertisements in all media. 

“We have filed our detailed response to the show cause notice received from the Election Commission. We have submitted that biopic 'PM Narendra Modi' is not in violation of model code of conduct,” Hitesh Jain, Vivek Oberoi’s lawyer, told mediapersons in New Delhi. 

PM Narendra Modi is a political biographical drama detailing the rise of Narendra Modi from a young tea seller in Gujarat to becoming the Chief Minister of the state, followed by his victory in 2014 Lok Sabha elections. The film is co-produced by Sandip Ssingh, Suresh Oberoi and Anand Pandit.
