YouTube-fame Gopi Sudhakar, who rose to fame with their political satire sketches, will be starring in a crowd-funded film next. Debutant director SA Karthik, who goes by the screen name SAK, says that the film won't be a political satire, but will, nevertheless, address our everyday encounters in the society.

The team has raised Rs 75 lakhs within three days of their campaign, but SAK confesses that he opted for crowdfunding only after an exhausting two-year search for a like-minded producer. “My story is extremely off-beat. When it is a single producer, I was asked to make several compromises. Or they would say even though the story is good, it won't work here,” he says.

Finally, it was Gopi and Sudhakar, popularly known as Go-Su, who nudged him to explore crowdfunding. The estimated budget of the campaign, which has been hosted on Fundmelon for a period of 45 days, is eight crore. “We had to account for all expenses including that of distribution and promotions. Hence, the higher budget. But the film will be worth it,” says SAK.
