Nayanthara, who was last seen in Sivakarthikeyan's Mr Local, was supposed to have her fourth release of the year with the horror thriller, Kolaiyuthir Kaalam, which was scheduled to get a release today. But unfortunately, the release has been infinitely postponed because of an unexpected legal issue. Producer V Mathiyalagan, who had brought the film, and had planned to release it under his Etcetera entertainment banner, has revealed the reason behind the postponement, in a recent interaction.

According to V Mathiyalagan. a person named Balaji Kumar has alleged that he holds the rights to the famous novel Kolaiyuthir Kaalam by Sujatha, and that the usage of the title for the Nayanthara starrer is a case of copyright infringement. Consequently, the court has stayed the release of the film, until further review.

The film had earlier been in headlines because of Radha Ravi's slut-shaming comments on Nayanthara, targetted at her absence at the film's audio launch. Following this, Vignesh Shivan lashed out in support of his partner, Nayanthara, claiming that Kolaiyuthir Kaalam was still incomplete, and wasn’t shot properly. Mathiazhagan, on his part, accused Vignesh of spreading fake rumors about the film.
