Deepika Padukone to play Kapil Dev's wife in Ranveer Singh-starrer '83

This is the first collaboration between Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone post their November wedding in 2018

Deepika Padukone has officially joined the cast of Kabir Khan’s ‘83. She will be portraying the part of Kapil Dev’s wife Romi Bhatia. Ranveer Singh, who plays Kapil Dev in the film, wrote on social media, “Who better to play my wifey than my wifey?"

‘83 went on floors in London last month. The film recreates team India’s historic win at the 1983 Cricket World Cup. The cast also includes Harrdy Sandhu, Chirag Patil, Saqib Saleem, Pankaj Tripathi, Tahir Bhasin, Jatin Sarna, Jiiva, Saahil Khattar and others.

Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh were married in November last year. The couple has previously worked together on Goliyon Ki Rasleela Ram-Leela, Bajirao Mastani and Padmaavat, all directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali.

Produced by Madhu Mantena, Sajid Nadiadwala and Reliance Entertainment, ‘83 is scheduled to release on April 10, 2020. Deepika Padukone recently wrapped up her upcoming film, Chhapaak, directed by Meghna Gulzar. The film is based on the life of activist and acid-attack survivor Laxmi Agarwal. Ranveer Singh’s upcoming projects are Jayeshbhai Jordaar and Takht.
