On my set, she was an actor: Prakash Kovelamudi on Kangana Ranaut reshooting Mental Hai Kya

Director Prakash Kovelamudi has denied rumours of Kangana Ranaut interfering with his debut Bollywood film Mental Hai Kya. Recent reports claimed the actor was unhappy with certain scenes and had taken over directing duties to reshoot those parts, leading to the delay in the film’s release. Kangana was accused of creative interference on her previous release, Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi, which she finished after director Krish Jagarlamudi exited the project.

"On my set, Kangana was an actor; a professional one, and a creative asset," states Prakash, adding, “Both Kangana and Rajkummar are powerhouse performers, whom I enjoyed directing. I am happy to see how their characters have turned out. Mental Hai Kya is an intriguing thriller with doses of quirk. The film challenges the norms, and I am thrilled to bring to the audience something original."

Refuting rumours of a reshoot, the director adds, “We finished the first leg in Mumbai, the second in London, and the last one in Mumbai again. The final schedule was wrapped last month. That’s all. All other conjecture is baseless."

Written by Kanika Dhillon and produced by Shobha Kapoor, Ekta Kapoor and Shaailesh R Singh, Mental Hai Kya is scheduled to release on July 26. The film’s trailer is expected to arrive later this month.
