 Abhishek Varman's father, art director R Verman passes away at 72 

He is survived by his son, filmmaker Abhishek Varman

Bollywood art director R Verman passed away in Mumbai. The 72-year-old veteran technician was unwell and succumbed to a cardiac arrest at a suburban hospital. His last rites were performed by his son Abhishek Varman (director, 2 States and Kalank). Producer Karan Johar, actors Varun Dhawan and Alia Bhatt and directors Shashank Khaitan and Anurag Singh reached to offer their condolences. 

An alumnus of Sir JJ School of Fine Arts, R Verman started his career in film advertising and publicity design. He was a frequent collaborator of Dev Anand and worked on the films Jewel Thief and Guide. As an art director, he worked on over 350 films, including Karan Arjun, Andaz Apna Apna, Baazigar, Kaho Na Pyaar Hai, Phir Hera Pheri and 36 China Town. He twice won the Filmfare for Best Art Director for Hum (1991) and Angaar (1992). His last credited work was on Yaar Meri Zindagi (2008). The film starring Amitabh Bachchan and Shatrugan Sinha was released 37 years after it entered production in 1971.
