Ajith and Vijay fans clash on Twitter, trend contrasting hashtags

CE Features

You might have thought that after Ajith said, "Oruthaukku viswasam kaatardhukaaga, innoruthara yen asingapaduthareenga?" in the Nerkonda Paarvai trailer, the war on social media between fans of the actor and those of Vijay would soon be over. Alas! That was not to be.

In yet another virtual war on Twitter, fans of Ajith early this morning nationally trended the hashtags #RIPVijay and #RIPActorVijay.

In response, fans of Vijay took a much cleaner route and trended the hashtag #LongLiveVijay. The latest count reveals that #LongLiveVijay has surpassed the #RIPVijay hastag by a healthy count of 100,000.

Earlier in the day, the trend caused confusion among Twitterati and it also created a sense of panic among fans of the Bigil star. The nationwide trend shook several fans who later got in touch with the actor's team to find out if Vijay was well. It came to light later that the trend was started by Ajith fans.

The passion for cinema and its stars is not new to the people of Tamil Nadu. But trending such hashtags to prove the supremacy of one actor over another shows an incredible lack of sensibility among the fan bases. Cricketer Ravichandran Ashwin appeared to feel this way as well, when he tweeted:
