Javier Bardem is in talks to play King Triton in the live-action remake of the Disney classic, Little Mermaid. If the actor accepts the offer, he would be joining the crew that has Halle Bailey playing Ariel, the daughter of Triton, and Harry Styles playing the human Prince Eric. The film also stars Melissa McCarthy as the villain Ursula, Akwafina and Jacob Tremblay.

The new Little Mermaid film, directed by Rob Marshall, is inspired from the 1989 animation film won two academy awards for original song and score by Alan Menken. The composer will update his score and compose a new song with lyrics from Lin-Manuel Miranda for the live-action film. Marc Platt, who previously worked as the executive producer of the studio’s live-action Aladdin remake, is producing Little Mermaid, along with Marshall and John DeLuca.

Javier Bardem is currently working on the science fiction Dune, directed by Denis Villeneuve.
