We had earlier reported that Shanmuga Pandian, Vijaykanth’s son, will be acting in a cop film next. Now, it has been announced that the film has been titled Mithran. The title was revealed by director AR Murugadoss.

Directed by debutant Boobalan, Mithran will have music by Thadam-fame Arunraj. Senior actor Archana will play Shanmuga Pandian’s mother in the film. The film is being shot in Kanchipuram. Earlier Boobalan had said, “It's a full-fledged cop entertainer. The script demanded a tall and well-built youngster in his early 20s to play the lead. Shanmuga Pandian is the only actor who satisfies this criterion, so I didn't have any other options in mind.”

Notably, Boobalan was an erstwhile assistant to director Siva on films such as Viswasam. Shanmuga Pandian made his debut in the 2015 film Sagaptham, which turned out to be a disappointment at the box office. While his second movie, Tamizhan Endru Sol, was launched and later shelved, his recent film, Madhurai Veeran, won critical acclaim.
