Awkwafina and Jacob Tremblay are the latest names to be connected to the upcoming live-action version of Disney's The Little Mermaid.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the makers have approached Tremblay and Awkwafina for the roles of Flounder and Scuttle, respectively. Flounder, a fish, is Ariel's best friend, and was voiced by Jason Marin in the 1989 animated film. Scuttle, a seagull friend of the little mermaid, was voiced by Buddy Hackett in the original movie.

Reports suggest the makers are in talks with Melissa McCarthy to take on the role of the antagonist, Ursula, the sea witch. Rob Marshall, who recently directed Mary Poppins Returns, is set to helm The Little Mermaid from a script penned by David Magee.

The story revolves around Hans Christian Andersen's fairy tale of a mermaid called Ariel who wishes to be human after she falls in love with a prince. Ariel makes a deal with Ursula, who grants her wish but takes away her voice in return.
