The pre-production for Vijay's next is underway and the casting team has roped in Kathir to play a pivotal role in the film. The actor had a stellar 2018 with the critically and commercially successful Pariyerum Perumal, and had his first release of 2019, Sigai, on January 9 as a web film release on Zee5. Vijay's next with Atlee marks the third collaboration between the duo and is tentatively titled Thalapathy 63. It also sees Nayanthara and Vijay as an on-screen pair 10 years after 2009's Villu.

Rumoured to be a sports film, Vijay is currently undergoing physical conditioning to look the part. It was recently reported that 16 actresses have been signed on for the film, lending credence to suggestions that this is a sports film. The film, also starring Yogi Babu and Vivek, has Muthuraj and Ruben handling art direction and editing, while AR Rahman is the composer. The film is going on floors this January 21 in Chennai and is expected to be a Diwali release.
