Anurag Kashyap’s upcoming production starring Taapsee Pannu and Bhumi Pednekar has been titled Saand Ki Aankh. The sports drama film, which went on floors on Saturday, is based on the lives of octogenarian sharpshooters Chandro and Prakashi Tomar, popularly known as the ‘Revolver Dadis’ of Johri, Uttar Pradesh.

Directed by debutant Tushar Hiranandani, the film was tentatively titled Womaniya, but following a legal tussle with journalist-producer Pritish Nandy’s production house (who had registered the title beforehand with the Indian Motion Pictures Producers’ Association and the Trade Mark registry), the makers have decided to rename the film as Saand Ki Aankh.

Kashyap, who owns the Intellectual Property Rights of the term ‘Womaniya’ from his 2012 film Gangs of Wasseypur, tweeted on Saturday: “So we have decided to not pay the extortion sum of 1 crore to Pritish Nandy. He can sit on the title and warm it and hope for it to hatch into something worthwhile for his company for once," adding, "while we go ahead with what (the makers) want the film to be.."Saand Ki Aankh". I am sorry that I had faith in Mr. Nandy."

Saandh Ki Aankh also stars Prakash Jha and Vineet Kumar Singh. The film is produced by Reliance Entertainment. Tushar Hiranandani has previously worked as a writer on Dishoom, Ek Villain, ABCD 2 and Grand Masti.
