Earlier this month, Kashyap and Motwane were accused of sidestepping the sexual harassment complaints made against their former Phantom Films partner Vikas Bahl. The incident, which took places at a luxury hotel in Goa in 2015, was recalled by the victim in a recent expose. After the resurfacing of the allegations, both Kashyap and Motwane had issued statements assuring that strict action was indeed taken against Bahl but the process was impeded due to contractual and legal complications.

Meanwhile, Varun Grover, who is the lead writer of Sacred Games, was accused of harassment by an anonymous source on Twitter. The alleged victim claimed the comedian-turned-screenwriter had tried to sexually molest her during their college years in IT-BHU. Grover had categorically denied the allegations and issued a detailed rebuttal of the accusations.

"After an independent investigation, the results helped inform Netflix’s decision to continue with Vikramaditya Motwane and Anurag Kashyap on season 2 of Sacred Games. We continue to collaborate with our production partners to ensure and maintain a safe and respectful working environment, read a statement by Netflix.

Starring Saif Ali Khan, Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Radhika Apte, Sacred Games was released to overwhelming critical-acclaim earlier this year. The first season was co-directed separately by Kashyap and Motwane, who also served as showrunner.

The second season of Sacred Games will reportedly be directed by Masaan director Neeraj Ghawyan, with Kashyap returning to direct the portions featuring Nawazuddin Siddiqui. Motwane, however, will focus solely on showrunning and not share directing duties.
