Margot Robbie, whose role as Harley Quinn in Suicide Squad was appreciated, though the film was panned by critics, has pitched an all-female DC film based on the comic series, Birds of Prey

“I pitched the idea of an R-rated girl gang film including Harley, because I was like, ‘Harley needs friends.’ Harley loves interacting with people, so don’t ever make her do a standalone film. She’s got to be with other people, it should be a girl gang. I wasn’t seeing enough girl gangs on screen, especially in the action space. So that was a big part of it.”

David Ayer's all-villain film, which was commercially successful, convinced the studio to cash in on the popularity of the Harley Quinn character, prompting as many as four projects involving her, and one of them is expected to be a Birds of Prey adaptation. The film, expected to be DCEU's first R-rated film if it goes through, is currently being written by Christina Hodson and will be directed by Cathy Yan.
