With his time as Iron Man coming to an end in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it seems Robert Downey Jr will be back to breathe life into another iconic character made famous by him on the big screen - Sherlock Holmes. 

It has been eight years since Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows was released and Warner Bros has now made it official that Sherlock Holmes 3 will be out on December 25, 2020. With the return of Robert Downey Jr as the titular character, Jude Law will reprise his role as Watson. It is not yet known if Guy Ritchie will be directing the third film, but it was confirmed that Narcos' Chris Brancato will be writing it. 

The film, scheduled to be released a week after Avatar 2, is expected to pick up from the end of the previous film, when Holmes throws himself and his arch-nemesis Moriarty into the Reichenbach Falls, echoing the end of The Final Problem.
