Brave Heart star, Mel Gibson, is all set to direct the World War II drama, Destroyer. It is notable that the actor-director's 2016 film, Hacksaw Ridge, starring Andrew Garfield, Sam Worthington, and Tresa Palmer, was also based on World War II. The film revived his career and went on to win multiple awards.

Destroyer will reportedly focus on the Battle of Okinawa from April 1945, just like Hacksaw Ridge, but from a different perspective. The war drama marks the full-fledged screenwriting debut of his longtime girlfriend, Rosalind Ross. The film will be based on John Wukovits’ nonfiction book Hell From the Heavens: The Epic Story of the USS Laffey and World War II’s Greatest Kamikaze Attack.

Apart from his new directorial, the veteran actor is also in talks for a major role in the Mark Wahlberg-starring film adaptation of The Six Billion Dollar Man.

While the release date of Destroyer has not been disclosed yet, the shoot of the film is expected to begin in September.
