Streaming giant Netflix will adapt Salman Rushdie’s acclaimed novel, Midnight's Children, into a webseries. The book has already been adapted into a film with the same name, starring Satya Bhabha and Shriya Saran, by director Deepa Mehta in the year 2012.

The novel has won several awards since its publication, including the 1981 Booker Prize, the Best of the Booker twice — first in 1993 and again in 2008 — and the James Tait Memorial Prize.

Midnight's Children traces the life of Saleem Sinai, born on the stroke of midnight on August 15, 1947, when India gained its independence. Every act of his is reflected in events that determine the national affairs of India. His health is bound to the well-being of the nation and his telepathic powers link him with the other midnight children born at the same instant. 

Netflix, which ventured into the Indian market in 2014, has slowly been turning into one of the major entertainment hubs in the country. The streaming site has also started to roll out exclusive Indian content like the recent anthology, Lust Stories, and the Sacred Games series, which will be released on July 6.
