Sundar C's ambitious film, Sangamithra has been lying in the cans from the time it was announced last year. The makers had launched the first look posters at the Cannes Film Festival 2017. The latest buzz is that the shoot will begin in August. However, official confirmation is awaited.

Featuring Jayam Ravi, Arya and Disha Patani in important roles, Sangamithra, set in the 8th Century AD, is bankrolled by Sri Thenandal Studios. Disha had replaced Shruti Haasan, who was the original choice for the period drama and had even undergone training in swordfighting and horseriding for the film.

A source close to the unit says, "The delay has been due to the replacement, but the team has also been busy with the pre-production work for more than eight months. TSL was caught up a bit with the release of Mersal as well. But Sangamithra will go on floors soon and it will be released in two parts like the Baahubali franchise."
