Filmmaker-actor Samuthirakani shared the poster of Appa 2 on Father's Day and captioned it 'velvom' (let's win). The film is expected to be a sequel to his 2016 film, Appa.

According to a source, most of the cast of Appa will reprise their roles. Produced and directed by Samuthirakani, the first film was narrated from the perspective of three fathers. In the film, he was seen as a doting father, who helped his son deal with the pressures of the education system. The source adds, "The concept is close to Kani's heart, and he's thrilled about writing a sequel. In a week's time, the official announcement about the cast and crew will be out."

Appa was remade in Malayalam as Aakashamittayee last year, starring Jayaram in the lead. Samuthirakani also had plans to remake the film in 11 other languages as he felt the plot was universally relatable.
