Director Prabhu Solomon began shooting for Kumki 2 in Thailand last year. Now, in a statement to the press, the filmmaker has clarified that, in terms of storyline, there will be no similarity between Kumki and Kumki 2. He says, “Kumki 2 revolves around a baby elephant, a small boy and their friendship over the years. Since it is also about elephants, I’ve retained the same name. But this film will be more grand in terms of budget.” Prabhu adds that the team was in search of a baby elephant for quite some time. “Also, we had issues getting permission to shoot. We shot one schedule in Thailand, and the next was completed in Kerala. We’ll shoot the third one again in Kerala.” While newcomer Mathiazhagan will play the main lead, the makers are yet to finalise the heroine. Reports were abuzz that Aditi Menon was playing the female lead, and later it was said that Shivani had replaced her. Official confirmation on this is awaited.
