Madhan Karky, who wrote the dialogues for the Tamil-dubbed versions of Baahubali and Mahanati, will now be doing the same for the upcoming Malayalam epic, Kayamkulam Kochunni. Set in the 18th century, the film revolves around a Robin Hood-like figure played by Nivin Pauly.

Karky, who is also penning the lyrics for the Tamil version, says, “Although the film is set against an ancient backdrop, the central character is a commoner. So we have decided to go with language that is neither too old nor completely contemporary. There is a huge responsibility to make sure that the Tamil audiences don’t feel as though they are watching a dubbed film.”

Directed by Roshan Andrews, the film is tentatively titled Malaikallan for its Tamil release. It is interesting to note that this was also the title of the well-known yesteryear film starring MGR. Also starring Priya Anand, Priyanka Thimmesh, Sunny Wane and Babu Antony, Kayamkulam Kochunni features a special cameo from Mohanlal.
