Akhaada, which stars Vasanth Vishnu in the lead, has been in the making for the last three-and-a-half years. The bilingual, directed by Shiva Ganesh, who previously directed the Kannada remake of Jigarthanda, is being made in Kannada and Tamil, and also stars Vijay Sethupathi. The actor signed this film much before he attained stardom. The team of the film, which was cleared by the censor board only last week, have begun their promotions. Vasanth Vishnu, who shared stills from the film, tells CE, "The shooting got stalled in between, and we also had to reshoot parts of the film with a new cast, because we couldn't get dates from the original cast. Vijay came on board when he was doing Sethupathi, and he completed shooting his portions before the delay." 

Akhaada, titled Edaku in Tamil, is based on a true incident and will see Vijay Sethupathi playing a negative role. "The bilingual will mark my debut in Kannada and Tamil," says Vasanth, adding, "We shot with film rolls rather than digital because the makers wanted to depict a period when social media was not in existence." 

The Kannada version is expected to hit the screens in August, followed by the Tamil version. Nayana plays the female lead, while music and cinematography are handled by Dharma Prakash and Shaman Mithru, respectively.
