Debutant director Venky AL is coming up with a musical film titled Koothan, starring debutants in the lead. The film, which also features choreographer-actor Nagendra Prasad (Prabhudheva's brother) in a negative role, is said to be an affecting take on the plight of junior artistes and backup dancers in the industry.

Talking to CE, Venky says that the film, which is set in a community called Film Nagar, will trace the journey of a group of backup dancers as they aspire to win an international championship. "We completed the entire shoot in about 25 days. The characters played by Nagendra Prasad and Oorvasi will be talked about. The former plays Krishna, the founder of a western dance school, who locks horns with the protagonists."

Remya Nambeesan and T Rajendherr have lent their voices for songs in Koothan, which has music composed by debutant Balz G. The film, which also features cameos by Bhagyaraj and Manobala, is expected to be released later this year.
