SPB, Yesudas to appear together on screen for the first time

Gopinath Rajendran

Legendary singers SP Balasubramaniam and Yesudas will be joining hands after more than 25 years for a song in MA Nishad's Tamil-Malayalam bilingual Keni (Kinar in Malayalam). The last time they sung together was for the cult classic Thalapathi song Kaattu Kuyilu Manasukkulla back in 1991. If that's not enough, they'll also appear together on screen for the song in Keni.

Talking about this collaboration, director Nishad who is seven films old in Malayalam cinema and debuting in Tamil with Keni says, "It's a blessing that I get to work with such veterans in my debut film. I'm also honoured that I'll be the first director to have them both on screen together. I'm looking forward to the audio release (which happens tomorrow) so that their fans can enjoy the songs." The duo will sing for the track Ayya Sami penned by Harinarayanan and Pazhani Bharati.

Keni is based on water scarcity. "All my films in Malayalam have had social messages and Keni will also be socially inclined. The story unravels at the border of Kerala and Tamilnadu and it'll educate about how water isn't a commodity. I'm also glad that the film will mark the return of veteran actor Jayapradha back to Tamil cinema (she was last seen in Dasavatharam)." The film also stars Parthiepan, Nassar, Revathy, Rekha, Anu Haasan and MS Bhaskar. Sam CS of Vikram Vedha-fame has composed the background score for this film, while M Jayachandran has handled the music.
