Margot Robbie opens up about her hestiation to play the lead

The actor has received a nomination for her lead role in I, Tonya in the Best Actress category of the 90th Academy Awards

In a career spanning almost six years, I, Tonya marked the first time that Margot Robbie has played the lead. She says she was always hesitant about taking on the responsibility.

The biographical sports drama I,Tonya features Robbie as the real-life skater Tonya Harding and her connection to the 1994 attack on her rival Nancy Kerrigan.

"It's a big step, playing a lead, a step I've been hesitant to take. All the weight of the film rests on your shoulders. And if it doesn't work? It's that much harder for you to get a lead role again - especially if you're a woman," says Robbie.

"I feel like guys get a few more chances to be the lead in a flop. If you're a woman, and it flops? Good luck getting another one," she adds.

Interestingly, Robbie has been nominated in the Best Actress category of the 90th Academy Awards happening next month, for her role in I,Tonya.
