National Award-winning singer S Janaki had announced her retirement from professional singing in 2016. However, she is taking a break from her self-imposed hiatus to sing in TR Pazhanivelan's Pannaadi

Pazhanivelan reveals that when they approached her for the song, she had already retired, but they managed to coax her out of the hiatus to sing the Rajesh Ramalingam composition, which has two versions — spirited and melancholic.

Talking about the song, Un Usuru Kaathula, Rajesh said, "Janaki amma asked us to give chance to youngsters, but we were steadfast that she had to be the one to sing it. After singing the sad version, she heard my voice in the track version of the happier duet version and asked me to sing the original too, along with her."

Bankrolled by Revathi Pazhanivelan under the banner of Sri Ayyanarappa Films, Pannadi stars a host of newcomers alongside RV Udhayakumar and Vela Ramamoorthi, who play important roles.
