Ace filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali has reportedly acquired the Hindi rights of the 2014 Tamil film Kaththi. Bhansali's SLB productions earlier made Rowdy Rathore and Gabbar is Back, both remakes of South Indian blockbusters

The Hindi remake of the Vijay-starrer, directed by AR Murugadoss, has been in the pipeline for quite some time. The initial talks revolved around casting Akshay Kumar in the lead. It is notable that Akshay has earlier played the protagonist in the remakes of two of Murgadoss' Tamil films, Ramana and Thupaakki.

Reports suggest that the makers are planning to rope in big names for the cast and crew of the yet-to-be-titled project. All eyes will be on the announcement about the actor who will reprise the dual role of Kathiresan and Jeeva, played by Vijay in the original.

Kaththi was also remade in Telugu as Khaidi No 150 in 2017, with Megastar Chiranjeevi playing the lead.
