Rumours of a sequel to Dostana –  Tarun Mansukhani's 2008 comedy film starring Abhishek Bachchan, John Abraham and Priyanka Chopra – have been afloat for quite some time. Multiple reports claimed that actors Sidharth Malhotra and Janhvi Kapoor were being considered for the film. On Monday, producer Karan Johar took to Twitter to squash all speculation and confirmed that the rumours are baseless.

In Dostana, Abhishek and John play two straight men who pretend to be homosexual partners to rent an apartment with a woman (Priyanka Chopra). At the time of release, the film was criticised for its evasive portrayal of homosexuality, while others praised the makers for addressing the subject through effective humour. 

John Abraham was last seen in the vigilante action film, Satyameva Jayate. Abhishek Bachchan's upcoming release is Manmarziyaan, which also stars Taapsee Pannu and Vicky Kaushal.
