Vijay-starrer Mersal set to become first Tamil movie to release in China

Tamil Cinema is set to make a grand entry into the Chinese film market with the Vijay-starrer Mersal. China's HGC Entertainment are planning to dub the film in Mandarin and release it in the country later this year or early 2019. 

The Atlee-directed 2017 blockbuster found favour with both the critics and audience alike with the music by Oscar winner A.R.Rahman gaining particular appreciation.     

In recent times, the Chinese audience seem to have found a connect with Indian cinema. Bollywood films like Salman Khan's Bajrangi Bhaijaan and Aamir Khan's Dangal and Secret Superstar set the cash registers ringing in China.  

Earlier, it was expected that Peranbu, directed by Ram with Mammootty in the lead would become the first Tamil movie to be released in China after the excellent reception the film received during the Shanghai film festival.
