Vin Diesel, who was roped in to play the titular role in Bloodshot, has announced that the film’s shooting is now underway. The Fast and the Furious-star, clad in a Bloodshot T-shirt, took to Instagram and posted a video captioned: “Day number one, baby. So blessed. Thank you for believing in me, thank you for believing in us.”

First published in 1992, Bloodshot centres on a mortally wounded soldier with powers of regeneration and meta-morphing made possible through nanomachines in his bloodstream. Created by Kevin VanHook, Don Perlin and Bob Layton for Valiant, the comic run of the character totalled 110 issues with more than 7.5 million copies sold.

Bloodshot joins Faith and Harbinger as Valiant comics characters that make the move towards the silver screen as part of a five-picture deal with Sony Pictures.

The makers of Bloodshot are targeting a 2020 release.
