Released in 1995, the adventure fantasy film Jumanji was based on the story of two kids who play a magical board game, which puts them in a host of dangers that can only be stopped by finishing the game. Late actor Robin Williams played the lead role in the film.

A modern sequel to the film titled Jumanji: Welcome to The Jungle was released in 2017 with Dwayne Johnson in the lead. Though the film wasn't a direct sequel to the 1995 film, the makers had retained the original's essence, with the story based on a bunch of high schoolers, who get trapped in a video game and the obstacles they go through to get out of it.

Following the success of the 2017 film, its makers have announced a sequel to it, which will be released in December 2019, around the same time as Star Wars: Episode IX. Though they have disclosed the release plans of the film, there is no official word about the plot, crew or cast.
