Filmmaker-producer Karan Johar has officially unveiled the lead cast of his upcoming epic drama, Kalank. The Kuch Kuch Hota Hai director took to Twitter to announce the principal cast and release date of the film.

He wrote, "Proud and excited to announce our epic drama Kalank. Releasing on April 19, 2019, directed by Abhishek Varman starring Madhuri Dixit, Sonakshi Sinha, Alia Bhatt, Varun Dhawan, Aditya Roy Kapur and Sanjay Dutt."

Sources state that the Abhishek Varman-directorial, set in the 1940s, was originally planned 15 years ago by Karan and his father Yash Johar. Initially, the late Sridevi was meant to play a crucial role in the film, but the makers had to rope in Madhuri Dixit for the role after the unexpected demise of the former.

The film will be produced by Karan Johar, Sajid Nadiadwala, Hiroo Yash Johar and Apoorva Mehta along with Fox Star Studios.
