I wish Theeran...had won a National Award: Producer SR Prabhu

The producer says he feels a bit disappointed that the Karthi film didn't win any awards

The announcement of the 65th National Film Awards might have pleased the makers of Baahubali, Ghazi, Kaatru Veliyidai, etc., but producer SR Prabhu is rather disappointed.

“I was expecting Theeran Adhigaram Ondru to win an award for either editing or stunt choreography. We knew we made a good film,” he says.

Prabhu adds that he doesn’t quite understand how the process works. “We sent Aruvi and Joker in 2016. Joker won awards; I was quite happy and content. The next year, we sent Maanagaram; it wasn’t considered. Anyway, nobody knows on what basis a film is selected or rejected. I don’t want to comment about all that,” he says.

Irrespective of the award, as a producer, he says, he always focusses on giving quality films to the audience.“Awards do matter, but I would like to go with what Vairamuthu said recently. Award kuduthaa nalla panel-num, kudukalena andha panel-a kuththam solla mudiyadhu. Ultimately, what concerns me more is box-office collection,” he says, playing it all down.
