Karthi, who made his Telugu debut with the bilingual Oopiri (Thozha), is all set to star in his next project in the language. According to a source, director Venu Udugula, who made his debut with the family drama, Needi Naadi Oke Kadha, which explores the strained relationship between father and son, is currently in contention to direct the actor in an intense drama to be made simultaneously in Telugu and Tamil.

"It’s an emotion-packed realistic drama that deals with a contemporary issue. There’s also an underlying intense love story and Karthi will be seen in an out-and-out serious role. It's going to be an extremely bold attempt. Venu is going to meet Karthi for a detailed narration on April 15 and is confident of getting a positive response from the actor," informs the source.

Renowned producer Kalaipuli S Thanu will bankroll the Tamil version, while Sudhakar Cherukuri will produce the Telugu version. "After listening to the script, both Thanu and Sudhakar expressed their excitement to start the proceedings. The film will have several big names from Telugu and Tamil in prominent roles. If everything falls into place, the untitled film will go on floors later this year once Karthi wraps up his present commitments -- Chinna Babu (Kadaikutty Singam) and an untitled film with Rajat Ravi Shankar," the source adds.
