Kate Winslet reunites with James Cameron for Avatar sequels

The actor-director combo will be seen together for the first time since Titanic

Oscar-winning actress Kate Winslet has reunited with Titanic director James Cameron after 20 years for his upcoming Avatar sequels.

"Kate and I have been looking for something to do together for 20 years, since our collaboration on Titanic, which was one of the most rewarding of my career. I can't wait to see her bring the character of Ronal to life," says Cameron.

Released in 2009, Avatar currently holds the record for highest grossing film till date with collections of $2.8 billion.

Four sequels of the film will hit theaters in the next eight years, starting with Avatar 2 on December 18, 2020, and followed by Avatar 3 on December 17, 2021. After a three-year break, Avatar 4 will release on December 20, 2024, with Avatar 5 rounding the franchise up on December 19, 2025.

Cameron began filming the first of the four sequels last week in California. The films will mark the return of some cast members from the first film, including Zoe Saldana, Sam Worthington, Sigourney Weaver, CCH Pounder and Stephen Lang.
