The Mohanlal-starrer Odiyan will go on the floors on August 1, says director V A Shrikumar Menon. The music of Odiyan, a magical realism-themed film, is by M Jayachandran, who will compose the tunes for the five songs.

"Though Odiyan is an action thriller, the songs will set the flavour for  the movie. It will be like the actor's previous films, like Aram Thampuram, where the songs set the mood and had a significant role to play," says the director.

The lyrics are by Lakshmi Shrikumar and Rafeeque Ahmed. The movie, which involves a large amount of world-class VFX work, will also have Prakash Raj and Manju Warrier in prominent roles.

In an earlier interview, the director had said  that Mohanlal will be playing a physically and emotionally-charged character. "Lal will play his career’s finest character in Odiyan," says the director.

Odiyan is scripted by journalist and National Award winner Harikrishnan.
