Filmmaker J Mahendran is all set to play Udhayanidhi Stalin’s father in the Tamil remake of Maheshinte Prathikaram, which will be directed by Priyadarshan. Mahendran made his acting comeback with Theri last year. According to sources, the crew has begun shooting for their portions in Tenkasi, Kuttralam, and Chennai after the official launch on July 10. "Mahendran sir played a villain in Theri, but in this film, his role will be that of a soft-spoken father, who forms an integral part of the story."

Udhayanidhi will reprise Fahadh Faasil’s role in the official remake, and he'll be starring alongside Namitha Pramod and Parvatii Nair. Samuthirakani has written the dialogues for the film. He also plays an important role in the film, as do Karunakaran and MS Bhaskar. Darbuka Siva has been roped in to compose the music. "Priyadarshan sir has written the script with the sensibilities of the Tamil audience in mind. It's a simple story that's narrated with comical elements," added the source.
