'Kumki sequel isn't like the Singam franchise'

Aditi of Pattadhari fame (who also has Arya's Sandhanadevan in her kitty) has been roped in as the female lead for Kumki 2 directed by Prabhu Solomon. Earlier, it was said that Shivani Rajasekhar had been picked for the role, but now Aditi is on board.

When CE contacted Prabhu Solomon, he said, "I am not retaining the same cast because I believe that Kumki itself is a brand. When people hear 'Kumki', they associate the title only with the elephant and not with specific actors. Kumki 2 will be the story of a calf elephant and it has the tag line: 'Born again'."

The filmmaker adds that he'll be promoting the film in a different way. "I could have easily gone with a fresh project, but didn't. A sequel with an animal isn't easy; it's not like the Singam franchise which only depends on actors." He says that he's sure kids will like Kumki 2. "I am researching more about the behaviour of elephants. I'll be off to Thailand and Sri Lanka soon to look for a calf-elephant. We can't find them here," he says.

Prabhu Solomon feels his previous outing Thodari could have had a newcomer. "I am not saying I regret doing a film with Dhanush, but I think the response would have been better if it had been a newbie without a set image."

Kumki 2 will have music by Thegidi fame Nivas K Prasanna.
