On account of MGR's birth centenary celebrations, the actor's megahit yesteryear classic Adimai Penn hits the theatres this weekend after having received a digital makeover.

The film, released in 1969, has MG Ramachandran and J Jayalalithaa in the lead roles with both of them acting in double roles. The iconic fight between MGR and a lion in the film that wowed the audiences back then has an interesting backstory. The actor actually bought a lion from Bombay circus and, under the watchful eyes of a special instructor, trained for 6 months to get the scene right.

Adimai Penn introduced singer SP Balasubramanian to Tamil audiences with Aayiram Nilave Vaa and also was notable for Jayalalithaa singing her first song Amma Endral Anbu.

Incidentally, the film was the last colloboration between MGR and actor-comedian Chandrababu. The film hits the screens on July 14.
