Swathi Kolai Vazhakku, based on the sensational murder of a software engineer at Nungambakkam railway station, was announced a month ago, which led to the victim's father filing a complaint with the police requesting to ban it. Now, the film has a new title, Nungambakkam

Directed by Ramesh Selvan, the script unfolds with the murder, which happened in June last year, when the woman was hacked to death on the platform by a stalker as she was waiting for a suburban train. The filmmaker had not sought permission from the victim's parents. Swathi's father, Santhana Gopalakrishnan, had sought action against producers and director alleging that the film's release would lead to emotional trauma for his family.

A source close to the director says that extra scenes have been shot, while a few were eventually deleted. "He had started writing the script even before police nabbed Ramkumar. In fact, he was planning to screen the film to Swathi's family before the release," the source added.

Nungambakkam will have Koothu-p-pattarai artistes Ayira and Mano in the lead.
