Express Features

A couple of days back, it was announced that the upcoming Spider-Man sequel will be directed by Jon Watts, post his successful stint with Spider-Man: Homecoming released earlier this year.

Marvel's sequel to Spider-Man: Homecoming, set for a theatrical release in 2019, will have Tom Holland reprising his role as Peter Parker, who will be swinging into action to save those in distress while handling the troubles he faces as a high school student.

Latest reports now state that a production date has already been set and filming will begin in June 2018. In addition, an audition tape for the character of Gwen Stacy featuring a young French actor named Louna is now doing the rounds with plenty of dialogue and banter possibly from the sequel.

Fans will know that Gwen Stacy was Peter Parker aka Spider-man's first girlfriend in the comic books and was portrayed by Bryce Dallas Howard in Sam Raimi's Spider-Man 3 followed by Emma Stone in the series reboot, The Amazing Spider-Man films a few years back. Although the previous iterations of the character stayed true to the lore in terms of appearance, it looks like the makers might now be opting for a change in the character's origin making her a foreign exchange student who would go on to join Peter’s school.

The sequel to Spider-Man: Homecoming is currently set for release on July 5, 2019.
