Since months now rumours have been floating that Alia is paired up with her alleged boyfriend Sidharth Malhotra for Aashiqui 3, but nothing was being confirmed by the makers. It was only recently that Sidharth was quoted saying, "I was approached a while ago. It’s a great franchise, I loved Aashiqui 2 and I’ve worked with both its director Mohit Suri and Alia. We are waiting to get it all on paper. We want to present a better version of the franchise. Once we finish our prior commitments we will start on Aashiqui 3." The statement of the actor made their presence in the film strong enough and reportedly is supposed to go on floors in 2018. But it seems like the film might be delayed. According to the sources, Alia feels she has many interesting films lined up ahead because of which she is not so keen in the franchise and is in two minds for the film.

The actress is currently shooting for Meghna Gulzar's Raazi. In mid-October, she will start shooting for Ayan Mukerji's Dragon with Ranbir Kapoor and later in Gully Boys with Ranveer Singh which will be directed by Zoya Akhtar. Whereas, Sidharth is busy with the promotions of his upcoming film, A Gentleman with Jacqueline Fernandez. After the promotions, the actor will resume  Aiyaary's  shoot with Manoj Bajpayee, Naseeruddin Shah, Anupam Kher and Rakul Preet.
