After the underwhelming Maattrraan, KV Anand and Suriya joined hands for the commercial entertainer Kaappaan, which also had Malayalam superstar Mohanlal. The film released on 20 September and received negative reviews from critics. However, the fans seem to have given a thumbs up to the film. 

Lyca Productions took to Twitter to share a picture of Suriya and the team celebrating the box office success of the film. According to the tweet, Kaappaan has raked in Rs 100 crore from across the world.

Other than Suriya and Mohanlal, the thriller also had Sayyeshaa, Arya, and Samuthirakani in important roles. Kaappaan is about a farmer/Special Protection Group officer trying to guard the Prime Minister of India and save the nation from a terrorist group.

Sudhir Sreenivasan of Cinema Express rated the film with 1.5 stars, and wrote, “The film feels cold, like a synthetic, lifeless product manipulatively designed to subscribe to a formula.”
