Rewind Movie Review: An unpleasant dream

With absolutely no creativity, Rewind is nothing but a purposeless disaster

A Sharadhaa

Lucid Dream, the 2017 South Korean scifi mystery, has been repurposed for debut director Thej’s Rewind. The filmmaker deserves some credit for trying to explore a complex subject and blending it with local flavour. But, that’s about it. With absolutely no creativity, Rewind is nothing but a purposeless disaster.

Cast: Thej, Chandana, and Sampath

Director: Thej

The story revolves around a crime reporter, Arjun (Thej), whose daughter has been abducted for over three months. With not much help from the police, he takes the scientific approach to find his daughter, trying to track her through 'lucid dreams' with the help of his scientist wife. His endeavour takes him through many risks. How his dreams help him trace his daughter and find the culprit is revealed after a few twists.

The film tries to cash in on this father-daughter relationship and also throws light on the dangers faced by a crime reporter. Picking up an unusual subject is a smart move by the debut filmmaker. But, by taking on multiple responsibilities like acting, direction and production, Thej ends up making a hash of it all.

The film is miscast and is filled with pathetic performances and uncountable loopholes. The jarring background score adds to the frustrating experience, making Rewind a completely disappointing watch.
