Judwa is a remake of the Telugu film Hello Brother (1994),which in turn was based on the Jackie Chan film Twin Dragons (1992).

The 1994 Nagarjuna film, Hello Brother, was also dubbed in Hindi as Hum Hain Karan Arjun inn 1994.

Salman Khan also did a film titled ‘Hello Brother’, alongside brother Arbaaz Khan in 1999. But it was not in any way connected to the Telugu film.

Judwaa marks Salman's first double role in his career, almost nine years after his debut.

Judwaa was also the first David Dhawan film starring Salman Khan.

Post ‘Judwaa’, Salman worked with David in films like ‘Biwi No. 1’, ‘Dulhan Hum Le Jayenge’, ‘Chal Mere Bhai’, ‘Mujhse Shaadi Karogi’, and ‘Partner’ among others.

Mamta Kulkarni was approached for the second female lead in Judaa, but later replaced by Rambha.

The film was originally titled Janambhoomi, according to reports.

Worldwide, Judwaa grossed ₹24.284 crore, equivalent to ₹233.42 crore when adjusted for inflation.

Reema Lagoo played the mother of the twins in the film.

It was the ninth highest-grossing film of 1997 at the Indian box office, where it sold 13.634 million tickets.

A reboot, Judwaa 2, starring Varun Dhawan, once again directed by Dhawan and produced by Nadiadwala, was released in 2017.

The only cast members from Judwaa appearing in Judwaa 2 were Anupam Kher, albeit in a different role, and Salman Khan in a cameo appearance.

The famous songs 'Oonchi Hai Building (Lift Teri Bandh Hai)' and 'Tan Tana Tan Tan Tan Tara (Chalti Hai Kya 9 Se 12) from Judwaa were recreated for Judwaa 2.

Judwaa's story was credited to EVV Satyanarayana, who wrote the Telugu original.
