With the Pan-Indian-movie craze rocking South Cinema, here are some Tamil filmmakers who had earlier made their Bollywood inroads

Agathiyan, who won 2 National Awards for Best Direction and Best Screenplay in 1996 for Kadhal Koattai, made his Bollywood debut with Hum Ho Gaye Aapke (2001), which starred Fardeen Khan and Reema Sen

The film, known to be the Bollywood debut of Reema Sen, is a remake of his second film, Gokulathil Seethai.

KS Adhiyaman, who wrote the script for Pudhiya Mugam, and directed films like Thotta Chinungi, made the 2012 Hindi film, Hum Tumhare Hain Sanam, which starred Salman Khan, Shah Rukh, and Madhuri Dixit

Tumhare Hain Sanam is a remake of Adhiyamaan's 1995 superhit, Thotta Chinungi, with Salman Khan reprising Karthik's role and SRK playing Raghuvaran's character.

Darbar director AR Murugadoss famously remade his Suriya-starrer Ghajini in Hindi with Aamir Khan in 2008, where it was a huge success.

ARM followed Ghajini up with Holiday (starring Akshay, the 2014 Hindi remake of Vijay's Thuppaakki, and Akira (starring Sonakshi Sinha, the 2016 Hindi remake of Mouna Guru).

KS Ravikumar, who has worked in a lot of films with stalwarts like Rajini and Kamal, forayed into Bollywood with Sanjay Dutt's Policegiri (2013).

Police Giri, also starring Prakashraj as the antagonist, is the official remake of Vikram's 2003 Tamil hit Saamy, directed by Hari.

Shankar, who's known for his high-budget movies, debuted in Bollywood with Anil Kapoor's Nayak (2001).

Nayak, a remake of his own Mudhalvan (1999), had Rani Mukerji reprising Manisha Koirala's role, and Amrish Puri as the chief minister.

Veteran actor-director K Bhagyaraj, known for his trademark screenplays, forayed into Bollywood with Amitabh Bachchan-starrer, Aakhree Raasta (1996).

Aakhree Raasta was a remake of the 1985 Tamil film, Oru Kaidhiyin Diary, starring Kamal Haasan, Revathi and Radha, which was also scripted by K. Bhagyaraj, but directed by Bharathiraja.

Kamal Haasan debuted in Bollywood as director with Chachi 420 (1997).

Chachi 420 is a remake of the Tamil film Avvai Shanmughi (1996), which was inspired from the Hollywood film Mrs. Doubtfire (1993). He followed it up with Hey Ram (2000) and Vishwaroop (2013).

Acclaimed director-cinematographer Balu Mahendra Mahendra entered Hindi cinema with Sadma (1983), starring Kamal Haasan and Sridevi.

Sadma is the Hindi remake of Balu's own 1982 directorial, Moondram Pirai, starring the same actors.

K Balachander, the guru of Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan, made his directorial debut in Hindi with Aaina (1977), starring Mumtaz and Rajesh Khanna.

Aaina was a remake of his own Arengetram (1973), which starred Prameela, Sivakumar, Kamal Haasan, S. V. Subbaiah and M. N. Rajam in prominent roles.

Six time-National Award winner Bharathiraja made his Bollywood debut with Solva Sawan (1979), which starred Sridevi and Amol Palekar in the lead roles.

Solva Sawan is a remake of the Tamil hit 16 Vayathinile, filmed two years earlier with Sridevi, Kamal Hassan and Rajnikanth.
