Who are the Bigil girls? What are they playing in the Thalapathy Vijay sports drama?

As most of know, Bigil isn't just an all-Vijay-show. The film also focuses on the journey of an underdog, girls-football team.

And as all the tales go, the path to glory is filled with tears. Every player in the team apparently represent the obstacles women face in life.

Indraja, daughter of Robo Shankar, plays a football player battling obesity issues

In this particular scene, Indraja is seen cursing her fate, saying 'Enga appavum gundu. Enga ammavum gundu. Naan mattum epdi iruoen?'

Reba Monica John, who was seen in Jacobinte Swargarajyam and Jarugandi, also plays one of the players in Bigil

Reba's character seems to be an acid-attack survivor, who fights against all odds to glory.

96-fame Varsha Bollamma plays a aspiring footballer, who's forced into an early marriage by her parents.

The film apparently focuses on how Varsja's character breaks free from her shackles.

Model-turned-actor Gayathri Reddy plays one of the players in the football team.

Aadhirai Soundarajan, who has played a few supporting roles, plays yet another player.

Aadhirai, incidentally, made her debut in Raghava Lawrence starrer, Kanchana 3.

Amritha Aiyer plays the captain of the girls football team.

Amritha had earlier acted in films like Kaali, Pei Pasi, and Padaiveeran,

Mercury-fame Indhuja plays one of the key footballers, who express doubt in Michael's capabilities as a coach in the film.

'Porukkiya kooptutu vandhu coach nu solranga Academy la!' Indhuja's character laments about Bigil's appointment as the team coach.

Indhuja possibly battles a shoulder injury in her journey to the finals.

How much of a role would Vijay's character play in their journey? That might be the crux of Bigil.

The girls are seen exercising and training for their matches.

Indhuja performs the intense Battle ropes as a part of her training.

Indhuja is seen working out with a large tyre in this frame, probably from Singa Penney.

One of the players, probably Aathirai, is seen honing her goalkeeping skills in a training session.

And then, there are these shots featuring the girls' matches in the film.

Interestingly, alll the actors who play footballers have played football at some point in their lives.

Amritha Aiyer is seen acing the mid-air overhead scissors kick in this frame.

Indraja Shankar takes a hit at the nets.

Amritha and the opposite team captain are seen at the toss, prior to the match.

Multiple cameras was apparently used by cinematographer GK Vishnu for filming the match sequences involving the girls.
