On Thursday, Netflix unveiled the new trailer of the Radhika Apte-Keerthy Suresh starrer Akka. Produced by YRF Entertainment and written and directed by Dharmaraj Shetty, Akka is set to premiere on October 30.
The two acclaimed actors will be seen in a gripping face-off at the heart of an epic gangster saga driven by power, legacy, and revenge. At the heart of the series are Bhavani (Keerthy) and Rudra (Radhika), two formidable women whose differing ambitions and beliefs fuel the rivalry. As their conflict threatens to disrupt the established order, the series explores themes of power, loyalty, family, and revenge.
Offering a glimpse into the kingdom of Pernuru and its powerful houses, the trailer teases a world where women lead from the front and fiercely guard what is theirs. With an outsider challenging the legacy that has long ruled Pernuru, loyalties are tested, rivalries deepen, and old wounds resurface, pushing the balance that holds it together to its limits.
The ensemble also features Tanvi Azmi, Mahesh Manjrekar, Anshuman Pushkar, and Monica Panwar, amongst others.
Reflecting on stepping into the role of Bhavani, Keerthy said, “Bhavani is a woman who knows what she stands for and will go to great lengths to protect her legacy. What makes her interesting is her choices that are never easy, especially when stakes are high. Working with Radhika was amazing because Bhavani and Rudra bring such different energies to the story, and their dynamic adds another layer of tension to the narrative.”
Speaking about her role, Radhika said, “Rudra is someone who refuses to be defined by the circumstances she finds herself in. She is fierce, has her own ambitions, and is willing to challenge the established order. What I enjoyed about Akka is that the conflict isn't simply about who holds power; it's also about the different beliefs, loyalties, and personal stakes that drive each character.”
Debutant writer-director Dharmaraj Shetty noted, “What drew me to Akka was the chance to give the gangster genre a world with its own rules, and to tell a large, entertaining saga through characters and relationships we don't often see at its centre. Watching Keerthy and Radhika bring Bhavani and Rudra to life was incredibly exciting.”
Tanya Bami, Series Head, Netflix India said, "With Akka, audiences will enter the fictional world of Pernuru where women are not just part of the story, they are the power centre."
Akka marks the latest collaboration between Netflix and YRF Entertainment, following The Romantics, The Railway Men, Maharaj, and Mandala Murders.
