The Malayalam thriller landscape has had its share of stories about ordinary people getting caught on the wrong side of the law. But what happens when the people trying to hide a crime are the ones who are supposed to uphold it? That forms the crux of Pradhama Drishtya Kuttakkar, which places a group of police officers on the other side of an investigation.
The Shahad directorial, which opened to positive responses in theatres, revolves around four low-ranking cops who find themselves in a dangerous situation following an unexpected encounter. What begins as panic soon turns into an attempt to conceal what happened, while a seasoned investigator starts piecing together the truth. The film consequently plays out less like a conventional cop-versus-criminal story and more like a battle of wits between cops themselves.
Starring Parvathy Thiruvothu in her first police role in Malayalam cinema, Pradhama Drishtya Kuttakkar is now set to make its digital premiere on Netflix on October 9. The film will stream in Malayalam along with dubbed versions in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Hindi.
Parvathy plays Aleena Abraham, a woman who joins the police force through compassionate appointment after the death of her husband. Though initially offered a clerical position, Aleena opts for station duty and finds herself caught in an increasingly complicated situation. The cast also includes Vijayaraghavan, Mathew Thomas, Sidharth Bharathan, Unnimaya Prasad, Azees Nedumangad and Vinay Forrt.
Interestingly, the film's theatrical journey has been one of its talking points. Released on September 11, Pradhama Drishtya Kuttakkar crossed the Rs 50 crore mark worldwide on its 17th day, according to the makers. Directed by Shahad, the film has a screenplay by PS Subramanian and Vijesh Thottingal. Roby Varghese Raj has handled the cinematography, Chaman Chacko the editing and Mujeeb Majeed the music. The film is produced by Arjun Selva under the 11 Icons banner.
